COVID-19 Sanity Check

I hope you are all safe and staying sane during this coronavirus roller coaster.

Many of us are under lockdown at home. Investment accounts are getting crushed and businesses are facing challenges like never before.

We will get through this.

Here are some tips to help you keep those feet moving during these crazy times.

1. Trust in the advice of health experts (e.g., your doctors and the CDC). You’ll save yourself lots of stress by letting the professionals do their jobs.

2. Cherish the extra time you might get at home. How many times have you sat in your office wishing you saw your kids more? You’re now facing the reality of being at home for weeks. Make the best of it! This might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend time with your loved ones.

3. Follow the facts. There’s a lot of uncertainty about how serious COVID-19 is. Ignore the reports that it’s a hoax or conspiracy and listen to trusted medical experts.

4. Appreciate the little things that you once took for granted. That little bottle of hand sanitizer you spent hours searching for is now an essential item to carry with you. Be thankful if you have a fully stocked pantry. Many don’t.

5. Consider alternate realities. There’s a chance that your job situation might change as a result of the pandemic’s financial consequences. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Think about the next steps you may have to take before your hand is forced.

6. Take a step back. Until you’re directly impacted by a medical crisis, it’s easy to think “this will never happen to me.” Like it or not, this pandemic is affecting everyone. Use this time to reflect. What’s really important to you?

The events surrounding this pandemic are surreal. It’s as though we’re all playing a part in the same horror movie.

Taking precautions and preventive measures will help you stay safe during this pandemic and other crises that may follow. You might even build closer bonds with your loved ones during this time.

Be safe, appreciate what you have, and keep those feet moving.
